Course Outline
The Guernsey Insurance Certificate forms part of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC) minimum qualifications for Authorised Insurance Representatives.
The syllabus is based on the following discrete areas:
- The scope of the Insurance Business (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, the Insurance Managers and Insurance Intermediaries (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, and the regulatory framework of financial services within Guernsey
- Legal requirements and Guernsey law
- Guernsey taxation
- Guernsey Social Security
- Protection products
- Savings and investment
- Pensions
- Mortgages
- Best practice

Course Objectives
This qualification is mandatory for all Authorised Insurance Representatives (AIRs) advising on “Long-Term” insurance products. In addition to the Guernsey Insurance Certificate, AIRs are required to hold either the CII Financial Planning Certificate, or its replacement, the Certificate in Financial Planning.

Examinations
The course is examined via a two-hour multiple-choice and short-answer examination. Examinations take place in Guernsey twice a year.
Delegates can register for exam entry only, or for exam entry plus a tuition support scheme, which consists of a number of half-day tutorials in the weeks immediately prior to the exam. Please download the attached flyer for the tutorial dates leading to the November exam.
