Core Modules

Module 1: Development Workshop

Aim: The first day focuses on the programme ahead and provides you the opportunity to explore and assess your development needs in line with current and potential future roles. The aim is to create ‘stretch’ towards development.

Objectives: By the end of the module, you will have:

  • Met the group, discussed personal experiences and set learning objectives
  • Participated in skill assessment activities and received results feedback
  • Received personal 360° feedback on a one-to-one basis with the tutor
  • Identified your learning style (Peter Honey Learning Styles)
  • Chosen the programme electives and initial assessments

Module 2: Results Focused Communication

Aim: Good communication is often at the heart of success for organisations, teams and individuals. Day two aims to provide an insight into different communication behaviours in order to develop a better, more assertive response and the skills to ensure you achieve the right outcome.

Objectives: By the end of the module, you will have:

  • Gained an appreciation of the process of communication and different behaviour types
  • Examined the use of verbal and non-verbal communication and their outcomes
  • Developed the ‘art’ of active listening
  • Learned how beliefs, rights and responsibilities are at the core of assertive communication
  • Identified the personal benefits of assertive communication and practised these skills

Module 3: Roles, Responsibilities and Leadership Styles

Aim: Throughout this day, you will consider your role within the workplace and study the different ways in which people can be led and managed.

Objectives: By the end of the module, you will have:

  • Explored in-depth your role, responsibilities and the expectations placed upon you
  • Examined the need to achieve balance when managing task, team and individual
  • Identified a range of leadership styles and assessed current practices and results
  • Conducted staff assessment and development style choices

Module 4: Workplace Coaching and Effective Delegation

Aim: The final day of the Core Modules focuses on the key skills of coaching and delegation to bring effective results from individuals and the team. The aim of the supervisor or first line manager is to enable learning and growth of the staff for whom they have responsibility. These two skill areas are essential to success.

Objectives: By the end of the module, you will have:

  • Defined both coaching and delegation within the context of the first line manager role and recognised the importance of these skills
  • Reflected upon the four Learning Styles and gained an understanding of how this affects the coaching approach and methods used
  • Developed and practised effective coaching behaviours
  • Overcome ‘blockages’ to learning from others
  • Explored current delegation practices, challenges and results
  • Considered the variety of types of work to be delegated and examined the drivers behind the decision making process
  • Learned the 5 Steps to Effective Delegation.

Course Objectives

This programme aims to develop skills at team leader, supervisor or first line manager level. The learning will result in personal growth and improved performance when managing others.

Jackie Bullivant is an experienced training and development consultant working mainly in Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man and London. Since 1994, she has worked with a wide range of organisations across many sectors, specialising in the design and delivery of a variety of training initiatives. Jackie's background is in the Finance industry where she held a management position for a number of years until embarking on a career in training and development during 1993. Her personal development in this role began in Canada where she trained to be a trainer and gained accreditation to deliver a variety of training programmes. As a Company Director of Priority Management and then later as a Director of Training and Development for a local Human Resource Company, Jackie expanded her knowledge, skill and accreditation base to include the design and implementation of Assessment and Development Centres, as well as receiving a merit award for the Belbin Interplace and Team Role course. She is the Channel Island representative for Belbin team roles. In 2002, Jackie launched her own company ‘Platform 4 Training Ltd'.
