IT Training Needs Survey

The GTA is pleased to publish the results of a recent IT survey into the provision of such training on-island. Commissioned by the GTA’s IT Advisory Group the survey looked at the range, quality and cost of IT training on-island with a view to establishing whether there were any gaps in the provision of IT training locally. In view of the dynamics of local IT training having changed in recent years the survey also looked for responses from companies regarding how the current training environment could be improved.

With just under 100 responses, and 70% of those from companies with more than 20 staff, the survey shows that the key driver for undertaking training is changing technology. Following on from this the most important factor in selecting IT training is its relevance to the business requirements. The cost of training and its value for money is the second most key consideration, with the scheduling and accreditation less important. Where possible companies would prefer to send their staff on public courses rather than have the training delivered in-house.

The IT Advisory Group, which is composed of representatives from the GCFE and industry, is now looking at these survey results and working with other IT course providers to improve the provision of local IT training.
