Islanders planning to undertake higher education now have a new prospectus to refer to which will inform them about the range of courses that are available locally. The GTA University Centre, College of Further Education, Department of Education and the Institute of Health & Social Care Studies have joined forces to produce a prospectus which aims to provide islanders with a single comprehensive source of higher education opportunities taught on island.
The prospectus signifies a closer working relationship by the four partners following recommendations by the Skills Strategy Development Group and will result in the development of a higher education strategy, ongoing savings through economies of scale and wider opportunities for higher education on island.
In joint statement, the partners said: “This combined prospectus is a great reference tool for islanders looking to study a higher education programme as it highlights all of the courses delivered here in Guernsey and where they are available from. Changes to the costs and delivery of higher education in the UK means islanders are considering alternatives and this prospectus will help to show them the options available here in Guernsey.”
The partners emphasised the importance of education: “Education is extremely important for career progress and the prospectus is an attempt to make it easier for islanders to obtain key information. It is important to support as many islanders as possible and being able to study without the need to travel away is a good way to overcome some of the barriers to higher education. Part time study can be combined with living and working in Guernsey, saving on time and money needed to travel regularly to the UK, something that may not be available to many people.”
The new prospectus will be mailed out to local businesses and schools and is also available to download here.
