Finance for the Non-Finance Manager – Session 1 – Accounting terminology, basic book-keeping and financial accounting


The course is aimed at those wishing to improve their knowledge of basic accounting and understand the underlying principles of management accounting and budgeting. The course will also look at a number of other relevant topics that non-financial managers should be aware of. This course has been developed for the GTA University Centre and focuses on both the finance and commercial sector.


Session 1 – Accounting terminology, basic book-keeping and financial accounting

1 Background of accounting standards, terminology and audits

2 Basics of bookkeeping, including account preparation example

3 Financial accounting

4 Financial accounting theory

Tutor Profile

Vicky Le Poidevin is a fellow of the ICAEW with over 15 years’ experience in the finance sector. She trained with a big four firm and spent time in senior roles in both the Fund and Trust sector before joining Offshore in September 2016. Vicky’s previous training experience includes delivering courses for both qualified and unqualified staff at a big four firm, evening classes at a professional training agency and to industry professionals in her role at Offshore.
