An exclusive opportunity to listen to one of the UK’s leading economic thinkers and popular speaker, Dr Savvas Savouri, as he provides his thoughts on what the future holds for the offshore economy in light of impending Brexit. This will be followed by an interactive panel session of Guernsey experts moderated by James Falla Communications Manager at Guernsey Finance and rounded off with networking drinks to give some opportunity to discuss this hot topic amongst your peers.

The shape of the future for the offshore economy has never been more uncertain than it is today with the looming spectre of Brexit dominating political, economic and everyday conversation for all walks of life.

Dr Savvas Savouri is one of the UK’s leading economic thinkers and commentators. He regularly provides insights on a broad range of topics and we are lucky enough to have him join us here in Guernsey to provide some guidance to our audience on the key challenges facing our economy and the wider offshore world in light of Brexit and the potential ways we may turn this potential threat to our benefit.

Introduction

This interactive event will provide our audience with a one hour talk by Dr Savouri giving his thoughts on the future for Offshore in a post-Brexit economy.

Dr Savouri will then join a panel of industry experts moderated by James Falla Communications Manager at Guernsey Finance for an interactive session at which the audience will have the opportunity to canvas the views of the experts as well as hearing what some of the leading voices in Guernsey think on the topic.

We will then be rounding off the event with an opportunity to meet Dr Savouri, the panel and your fellow delegates over networking drinks and to discuss all that you have heard over the preceding two hours and which will undoubtedly have provided you with some food for thought.

The panel of Guernsey experts will be reacting to the insight provided by Dr Savouri and giving some thoughts on their plans for Brexit and sentiments for the future. The door to Europe may be closing to the United Kingdom but this may open new doors and create key advantages for the UK and the wider economy including the Crown Dependencies across the rest of the world.


Dr. Savvas Savouri – Chief Economist, Toscafund Asset Management a London

Dr. Savouri is a partner and Chief Economist with Toscafund Asset Management a London based investment firm and one of the UK’s leading economic thinkers. Dr. Savouri has been involved in commercial finance since 1991 and has worked in the capital markets divisions as head of quantative finance in a number of leading financial institutions. He has also taught extensively in the areas of statistics, economics and mathematics and authored various academic papers published in peer-reviewed journals.


BREXIT PANELLISTS

Christopher Anderson – Partner, Carey Olsen

Christopher is a partner in the Guernsey office of Carey Olsen and has significant experience in investment funds, insurance and reinsurance and protected and incorporated cell companies. He has built a strong reputation in private equity, having advised some of the world's largest private equity houses as well as new fund promoters in connection with fund establishment, investment structuring, exits and regulatory issues. He was listed in the International Who’s Who Legal of Private Funds Lawyers in 2018. Christopher also has a keen interest in the topic of Brexit and has recently jointly authored Carey Olsen’s briefing on it implications for Guernsey and Jersey.

James Falla – Communications Manager, Guernsey Finance

James joined Guernsey Finance in January 2018 after a long career in newspaper journalism in the island. He has a wide range of contacts in Guernsey financial services. He also spent two years in a communications and media role at the States of Guernsey.

Deputy Gavin St Pier - President Policy and Resources Committee, States of Deliberation of Guernsey

Deputy St Pier was first elected as a States Deputy for St Sampson’s in 2012 and has held the position of President of the Policy and Resources Committee of the States of Deliberation since it was established in May 2016. Deputy St Pier is a qualified chartered accountant, tax adviser and barrister and has worked in the Guernsey financial services sector for over 20 years in a variety of senior roles. Deputy St Pier has been at the forefront of Guernsey’s efforts to ensure it is included along with the other Crown Dependencies in an orderly Brexit process including regular correspondence and negotiations with the UK Government.

Dominic WHeatley – Chief Executive, Guernsey Finance

Dominic is Chief Executive of Guernsey Finance. His role includes business development and the promotion of Guernsey's finance industry in the island's target markets including Europe, the US and the emerging markets, technical research to support promotional activities and liaison with industry associations and government. Previously Chief Marketing Officer of the Willis Global Captive Practice and Managing Director of its Guernsey business, Dominic has over 25 years of finance experience in London and Guernsey.
