The first session of the ODPA Innovation & Data Protection Series | GTA will demonstrate how data protection is a fundamental part of sustainable innovation. Using examples of different types of innovation, including the adoption of AI, this session provides an overview of how innovation and data protection overlap and how realising this improves your outcomes.
Please note that attendance can be in-person or virtual and booking the series of 3 sessions provides a discount of £25.
Attending this series will help you view data protection as an enabler, rather than an inhibitor, of innovation.
Appointed in 2024, Brent Homan is the Data Protection Commissioner for the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Mr. Homan has over 25 years’ experience in both the Privacy and Competition realms. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Homan was Deputy Commissioner at the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, where he enforced Canada’s federal privacy laws. Mr. Homan’s accomplishments in Privacy include leading enforcement actions including: Medical Specialist Group Breach (2025), Jacksons (2025), Gambling Industry Sweep (2024), Canada Post Marketing (2023), Tim Hortons Location Tracking (2022), Facial Recognition – Clearview, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (2020/1), Facebook Cambridge Analytica (2019), Equifax (2018), World Anti-Doping Association Breach (2017), and Ashley Madison (2016). A global leader in International enforcement, Mr. Homan has co-led numerous international investigations including two Global Privacy Award winning investigations against Clearview and Ashley Madison. Mr. Homan created the Global Privacy Enforcement Network (GPEN) Privacy Sweep and co-chairs the International Enforcement Cooperation Working Group of the Global Privacy Assembly. A digital economy leader, Mr. Homan has advanced global cross-regulatory collaboration in the areas of privacy, consumer- protection and competition, and with his counterparts, has co-founded the Guernsey Consumer Cooperation Forum. Prior to joining the privacy world Mr. Homan was Assistant Deputy Commissioner at the Competition Bureau of Canada where he promoted competition in the Digital Economy and health sectors. In the area of health, Mr. Homan led Canada’s Tobacco Inquiry that culminated in the removal of Light and Mild labelling from cigarette packaging across Canada. Mr. Homan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Political Science from Carleton University, and a Masters in Economics from the University of Ottawa.
